Ten months after Virginia Giuffre’s death by suicide, a newly released email appears to support her assertion that she met and posed for a photograph with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

The email, sent in 2015, was uncovered in the more than three million Jeffrey Epstein-related documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday. It was addressed to Epstein and sent by a “G Maxwell,” believed to be Ghislaine Maxwell. The body of the email is labelled “draft statement.”

“In 2001 I was in London when [REDACTED] met a number of friends of mine including Prince Andrew,” it reads. “A photograph was taken as I imagine she wanted to show it to friends and family.”

The name of who Maxwell was discussing is redacted in the published file. But Giuffre alleged she was forced to have sex with the former prince on three occasions, including at Maxwell’s home in London in 2001 when Giuffre was 17 years old. The same home is referenced in the 2015 email.

Mountbatten-Windsor has always denied allegations of abuse and has claimed to have never met Giuffre. CBC News reached out to his representatives for comment via email but at the time of publication had not received a response.

“The email itself is incredibly important,” said Sky Roberts, Giuffre’s brother.

Along with his wife, Amanda Roberts, the pair spoke to BBC’s Newsnight program after the email came to light.

“I think that it is a vindicating moment,” he said, “but we also want to use this as a moment to remind people to believe survivors.”

    Vindicating Virginia

Giuffre’s memoir, Nobody’s Girl, was released in October 2025, several months after her death and details her allegations of abuse against Epstein, Maxwell and Mountbatten-Windsor.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence in the U.S. on sex trafficking charges related to Epstein, her former boyfriend.

In a separate email to Epstein in 2015, Maxwell said, “I have to distance myself from you in statement too. And they need me to say I was not aware of massage [with Andrew] in my house.”

Mountbatten-Windsor told Newsnight in 2019 that he didn’t remember having a photograph with Giuffre taken, insisting he wasn’t at Maxwell’s home that night but at a Pizza Express.

“You can’t prove whether or not that photograph is faked or not, because it is a photograph of a photograph of a photograph,” he said at the time. “So it’s very difficult to be able to prove it, but I don’t remember that photograph ever being taken.”

In 2022, he settled a civil sexual assault lawsuit from Giuffre for an undisclosed donation to her charity. It did not contain an admission of liability or an apology.

The former prince’s relationship with the late Epstein, a convicted sex offender, continues to dog the Royal Family, despite having been stripped of all royal titles and privileges in 2025, including having to move out of his mansion, Royal Lodge.

On Thursday at a public event in a village in Essex, a heckler questioned King Charles about his younger brother Andrew’s ties to Epstein.

“Charles, Charles. Have you pressurized the police for not investigating Andrew?” the man shouted before he was escorted away by police.

‘He knows what happened; I know what happened’

Giuffre’s brother and sister-in-law have expressed their wishes for a police investigation.

In their interview with BBC Newsnight, they said they were proud of their late sister for her courage.

“You know, every time I’m confronted with what Andrew says, I’m always reminded of this quote that Virginia says: ‘He knows what happened; I know what happened. And I know that only one of us is telling the truth here, and I know that that’s me,'” said Amanda Roberts.

Email appears to confirm photo of former prince, Virginia Giuffre is real

An email in the Jeffrey Epstein files believed to have been written by Ghislaine Maxwell appears to confirm that a photograph of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor with his arm around Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual abuse, is real.

Lisa Phillips, another Epstein abuse survivor, told CBC News Network host Aarti Pole that she wants the former prince to come to the U.S. and give testimony before Congress.

“It’s necessary information to get out there that these powerful people — billionaires, elites, world leaders — a lot of them were up to no good. And so it does need to be exposed,” said Phillips.

“I’m not quite sure how far people can be prosecuted, but I do believe that Congress needs to do something, and we need to keep going in this fight just to get answers.”
