The son of the late filmmaker Rob Reiner is pursuing unpaid money from a trust fund established by his parents containing as much as $1.5 million to pay for his legal defense against allegedly killing his father and mother.

On Monday, Nick Reiner filed a petition in a Los Angeles County court saying the overseers of the trust fund have no legal justification to deny the money to him.

According to the filing, Reiner, 32, should have received a distribution of the trust at age 30, but he did not. At least $1.5 million is thought to be in the trust, according to coverage by the Associated Press.

Reiner is the son of Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and photographer and film producer Michele Singer Reiner. They were stabbed to death inside their home in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood in December 2025. Reiner was arrested after.

He faces two counts of first-degree murder for the alleged fatal stabbings of his parents.

“Like anyone accused of a crime, Nick is presumed innocent, and he is entitled to mount his defense with the resources that are lawfully his own,” according to the petition.

Reiner has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder.
