Led by Neisha ‘Rose’ Khan, the recently-formed ‘Bellatrixes’ all-woman Protea Esports Team emerged triumphant in the Mobile Legends Bang Bang Test matches against Madagascar, Mauritius and Ghana, virtually on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 May, 2025.

From the gsport Newsroom February 2024

The first MLBB encounter was a 2-0 trouncing Mauritius on Thursday, 1 May, when the team gave the battle their all, earning Khan the Most Valuable Player title. The second game of the test match saw Rowell ‘Ketsuka’ Pillay earn the title of MVP in another South African win.

The matches against Mauritius and Ghana, on Friday, 2 May, followed a similar pattern and, despite facing delay and latency challenges, Team South Africa showed their true mettle and soldiered on.

The first encounter was a 2-0 trouncing of Mauritius on Thursday, 1 May, with Team Captain Neisha ‘Rose’ Khan earning the MVP title.
Rowell ‘Ketsuka’ Pillay earned her stripes as the MVP in South Africa’s second win in the first Test.

They slaughtered their opponents, giving no quarter and demanding none. Their determination, skill, and sportsmanship brought Mauritius and Ghana to their knees.

Ranya ‘Aewynne’ Sujee was in top form, earning the title of MVP in both test matches against Mauritius and Ghana, as well as in all four games.

“It’s a real achievement being the first all-female MLBB team in SA to get recognition. The support has been immense, and we are so thankful to everyone who helped us get this far!”

“Bellatrixes is a relatively new team formed less than a year ago, and the best females on the server was not an easy task. As for the actual competition, having to play on different servers and experiencing lag is always a challenge, but thankfully my girls and I have trained well, so we overcame these hurdles together.”

Asked for practical advice for young girls aspiring to follow in Bellatrixes’ footsteps, Khan said: “I would say “Go for it!”. Yes, it’s difficult navigating the Esports scene as a female, because it is quite male-dominated, but hard work and effort does pay off. As cliché as it sounds, practice really does make perfect.”
