Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday announced the end of commercial partner Momentum’s sponsorship of the Proteas Women’s team, which comes to a natural end on 30 April 2025.

Momentum have been proud partners of Cricket South Africa, supporting various formats for over 13 years.

Momentum has been instrumental in nurturing young talent and fostering growth within women’s cricket in alignment with CSA’s values of access and inclusion.

    Cricket initiatives

The partnership has also played a pivotal role in advancing various pipeline programmes, including boys’ schools and community cricket initiatives to sponsorship of the South Africa U19 women’s team through to the Proteas Women.

CSA Chief Executive Officer, Pholetsi Moseki said: “We express our sincere appreciation for the efforts Momentum made to empower our female cricketers and young talent over the years. Their commitment to women’s cricket has been exemplary, and we are proud to have partnered with such a powerful brand on this journey.

“This partnership has enabled the advancement of women’s cricket in South Africa, leading to strong and globally competitive Proteas Women’s teams.

“We wish Momentum continued success as we conclude this chapter. We have no doubt that the organisation will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of South African women.”

Nontokozo Madonsela, Chief Marketing Officer of Momentum Group said; “We are exceptionally proud to have been instrumental in the professional advancement of women’s cricket in South Africa with our sponsorship support since 2012.

“This support has been crucial in advancing the women’s team from amateur to professional status, enhancing their visibility and commercial value, and contributing to their success. The Protea National Women’s team now boasts a full complement of contracted players, along with dedicated coaching and medical support, and management teams. We thank CSA for partnering with us to make this dream a reality.

“Our journey may have come to an end, but our love of cricket, our support of the Proteas and the legacy of what we have achieved together will remain one of our proudest achievements.

Momentum is confident that the foundations laid during this partnership has inspired a new generation and sparked enthusiasm among fans and women.” Madonsela concluded.

Another nail in the coffin of cricket in the country – and worldwide?
