Bafana Bafana will face the Black Stars of Ghana next week in their final match ahead of their departure to this month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Bafana face Angola, Zimbabwe and Egypt in their group, hoping to make it into the knockout stages for the third consecutive tournament. In the last edition, Hugo Broos’ charges reached the semi-final for the first time since 2000.

On Tuesday, 16 December, Bafana will host Ghana in their final preparation match. The venue and time are yet to be decided by SAFA.

The team will then depart for Morocco on the following day ahead of their participation in the AFCON tournament to be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 – January 2026.

The stage is set for 24 African teams to battle it out in nine venues in Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire are the defending champion.

    Can Bafana win the AFCON?

Bafana Bafana are in Group B in the AFCON and will play their first match of the continental tournament against Angola on 22 December 2025.

Hugo Broos’ men are not favourites to win the tournament but they could be the dark horses. Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal are favourites but Bafana are also a team to watch.

With many teams aware of what South Africa can do this time around, it will be challenging for the 1996 African Cup of Nations champions to repeat what they did in 2024.

Bafana have since qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and that alone will make them a target.

    Who will win the AFCON?
