Scotland’s Nnena Kalu won the Turner Prize on Tuesday, beating four contenders including an Iraqi painter for the prestigious contemporary art award. The 59-year-old Glasgow-born autistic artist was recognised for hanging sculptures made from wrapped fabric, rope and tape. Disability charity Sense called her nomination “incredibly significant.”
