Yaounde – Tragedy struck on Monday, January 13, 2025, when retired Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) David Aman Koulbout took his own life in his residence in Nkolanga’a, a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Yaoundé, along the Yaoundé-Mfou highway.

The 67-year-old former government official reportedly shot himself in the head shortly after finishing his lunch. A neighbor, citing his wife, revealed that there had been no prior indications that Koulbout was contemplating suicide. The incident occurred in his bedroom, and alarmed family members rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunshot. They found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

Security forces quickly arrived at the scene and began investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. As of the time of this report, Koulbout’s body remained at the residence, pending transport to the morgue.

The Koulbout family had only recently relocated to their Nkolanga’a home in late 2024, following his retirement from a distinguished career in public service. David Koulbout served as the SDO for several key divisions, including Dja and Lobo in the South Region, Meme in the Southwest Region, and Mifi in the West Region.

While the reasons behind his decision remain unclear, his sudden demise has left the community in shock and mourning. Investigators are expected to shed light on the circumstances leading to this devastating loss.
