The name Shola Animashaun is synonymous with celebrity photography in Nigeria and several African countries. This is because the meek but hardworking storyteller has made so much impact with his lenses since June 2002, when he acquired his first camera, a few weeks before he received the clarion call to serve his nation as National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).
From the scion of Afrobeat, Femi Kuti to Hip Hop legend, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Innocent 2Baba Idibia, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Beyonce and Tiwa Savage, Animashaun had not only worked with them but documented memories and great times during their lives as celebrities and music connoisseurs.
The multi-award winning professional Nigerian photographer, who specialises in editorial and commercial photography has also worked with film stars include Funke Akindele, Rita Dominic, Saheed Balogun, Julius Agwu, Basket Mouth, and Bovi. Unknown to many, the Accounting graduate turned down a lucrative job in an accounting firm for the love of photography and went on to become a member of professional Photographers of America (PPA).
A younger brother to Ayo Animashaun, one of Nigeria’s showbiz impresario responsible for hosting Headies award, Shola’s resilience and attention to clients briefs and details has been described as his major potential.
Not limiting his expertise to only entertainment or showbiz assignments, Animashaun has continued to meet needs for both individuals and government parastatals alike. In the same vein, he has worked, in official capacity, for major top Nigerian companies such as Glo for Glo Campus Storms, MTN for MTN Project Fame, Channel O music Awards, Headies (Formerly called Hip-Hop World Awards), Love Like A movie, Basket Mouth Uncensored, Fela on Broadway and has been the official photographer in charge of editorial shoot for Hip Hop world magazine for almost a decade.
