The smell of braai meat, the sounds of Mzansi music, and an atmosphere buzzing with support for women’s sport set the perfect stage for the second edition of #SportsFriday at Red Cherry Interactive, the creative home of #gsport20.

#gsport20 finalists, Brand South Africa Play Your Part ambassadors, and new friends of women’s sport gathered under the afternoon sun to network, collaborate, and shine a spotlight on women’s sport.

Artist Thandy Matlaila was an energetic force among the evening’s distinguished guests at Red Cherry Interactive.

In attendance were representatives from Cricket South Africa, Federation of the Year finalists, Other #gsport20 finalists there were Mpumi Manyisi – former Woman in Print winner and finalist once again, Oarabile Diphoko – returning as a Woman in Radio finalist, and first-time finalist Gloria Brown, alongside gsport20 judge Cynthia Tshaka.

This initiative would not have been possible without Sithembile Ntombela and her Brand SA team for making Sport Fridays a reality.

Distinguished guests included Wanele Mngomezulu from Cricket South Africa Marketing, and the Federation’s Comms team.

There was a stern discussion about the harsh realities for South African women in sport, but the hosts’ feel-good vibe was undeniable.

The aim of the #SportsFriday initiative this Women’s Month is clear: to grow support for women’s sport. It all kicked off with a live broadcast on SABC 1 last week, with the celebrations moving from Auckland Park to Sandton to launch Women’s Month in style.

Events like these are more than just networking opportunities – they’re a chance to make the circle bigger, stronger, and louder in support of our sportswomen.
