“Our FMCG portfolio delivered an outstanding quarter, <a href="https://absafricatv.com/where-heritage-meets-the-horizon/” title=”Where Heritage Meets The Horizon “>where we doubled media investment alongside continued strength in Hair Fashion across markets,” said Sudhir Sitapati, managing director and chief executive officer of Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL), as the company reported double-digit growth in revenue and profit for the June quarter.

The FMCG maker posted a 19% increase in consolidated sales in the first quarter of FY27, driven by 9% underlying volume growth and broad-based momentum across India, Indonesia and Africa, the company said in its earnings release.

Consolidated net profit rose 11% year-on-year, while EBITDA grew 14%, even as the company navigated elevated commodity costs and volatility in crude prices.

Sitapati said the standout performance came from the Africa, USA and Middle East (GAUM) business, where revenue grew 47% year-on-year, supported by increased investments behind brands and categories.

“Our GAUM business delivered an outstanding quarter. This performance was led by our FMCG portfolio, where we doubled media investment, alongside continued strength in Hair Fashion across markets,” Sitapati said.

The company said it successfully scaled its air freshener business across the region and piloted Good Knight incense sticks in Nigeria, which has received encouraging consumer feedback. According to Sitapati, the Africa business has also delivered a structural improvement in profitability, with EBITDA margins improving from high single digits to the mid-teens.

Building the next growth engines

Beyond its traditional strengths in soaps and household insecticides, Godrej is betting heavily on newer categories such as toilet cleaners, body wash, face wash and liquid dishwash.

“Our speed boats—Godrej Fab, GK Incense Sticks and Godrej Aer globally—continue to grow strongly and are becoming increasingly meaningful contributors to the overall company,” Sitapati said.

The company recently expanded Godrej Spic Toilet Cleaner nationwide after positive consumer response in Tamil Nadu and announced the launch of Godrej Rizz, its entry into the ₹2,500-3,000 crore liquid dishwash market.

“These businesses are still at an early stage relative to their long-term potential. However, their progress gives us increasing confidence that we are building the next set of scalable growth platforms for GCPL,” Sitapati added.

GCPL’s standalone business grew 12% during the quarter, supported by 7% underlying volume growth. The home-care segment expanded 12%, aided by strong traction for Godrej Fab, air fresheners and household insecticides.

In personal care, the company reported growth in premium categories such as body wash, perfumes and hair colour, with Cinthol Bodywash recording its highest-ever quarterly offtake.

Indonesia, which has faced challenges in recent quarters, returned to stable growth, with sales increasing 15% and underlying volume growth touching 10%.

Confident of exceeding guidance

Despite a challenging operating environment marked by elevated input costs and geopolitical uncertainty, Sitapati said the company was entering the remainder of FY27 with greater confidence.

“With revenue growth tracking ahead of our original expectations and input costs beginning to ease, we enter the remainder of FY27 with increased confidence. We remain firmly on track to deliver our guidance for the full year, with the confidence to exceed the same in select areas,” he said.
