Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe has rejected claims that she misled Parliament regarding a donation of Chinese vehicles to the African National Congress (ANC) Women’s League, which allegedly ended up in the possession of her children.

Tolashe confirmed that she had submitted an affidavit to Parliament’s Ethics Committee in response to complaints lodged by two political parties about the matter.

She is set to appear before the parliamentary portfolio committee on Wednesday, where she is also expected to address concerns over controversial appointments within her department.

Addressing the issue, Tolashe maintained that her response to a written parliamentary question about the vehicles was truthful and aligned with the intended purpose of the donation.

“The cars were meant for the ANC Women’s League, not me, and this is why I did not declare them,” she said.

Despite mounting scrutiny, Tolashe has not provided further clarity on claims that the vehicles were redirected and registered under her children’s names.

“There’s a perception that I misled Parliament. However, I want to restate that I did not mislead Parliament,” she added.

The minister indicated that she had taken steps to formally explain the matter through her affidavit to Parliament’s Ethics Committee, signalling her willingness to engage with the investigation process.

Tolashe also framed the controversy as largely political, suggesting that it falls within the internal affairs of the ANC Women’s League rather than her personal conduct.

She said that, in the main, the matter is a political one to be handled by the ANC Women’s League.
