    What’s trending on X

Foreign fans are reacting with amazement at how Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs supporters can sit side by side in peace during one of football’s fiercest rivalries.

@Mickyjnr_ How do South Africans do it? Rival fans sitting together, watching the derby, vibing like family… how?

@SKKhumalo Because we are not savage brutes, unlike the nations that hide behind phony civility.

@Pepa60436 We have family supporting both sides, and you don’t want to hurt your own family.

@Veli_Mthiyane We are South Africans; we are unique compared to the rest of the world.

@Sbo10111 In South Africa, the father is a Kaizer Chiefs fan, the mother an Orlando Pirates supporter, and the son backs Sundowns.

@Ryder852 Everything is divided on this day, even in homes, so we are forced to unite. My wife supports Orlando Pirates and I support Kaizer Chiefs. My three-year-old has been influenced and supports Pirates, while I convinced my seven-year-old to support Chiefs. My wife’s family is mostly Pirates, while mine is split.

@H_Permza Because at the end of the day, we work together, go to school together, live as neighbours, and most importantly, we are a footballing nation.

@Xmbhenyane48482 Because husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, parents and children often support opposite sides — Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs — but family comes first. We live together and sit together in stadiums.

@AmaBheca We are a peaceful and loving nation, although some African countries take advantage by disrespecting us and our laws, calling us lazy and xenophobic.

@Silverfoxx77 Because here we are all friends, unlike those in other countries who fight over rivalries. It’s just football, plain and simple.

@Mirah_Japhta I will be driving home with crying Chiefs fans today, and I will be laughing all the way.

@Othi_Swazi Who is trying now? There goes your shot at winning the league.
