Planning a trip to the UAE? It just got easier, with the UAE visa on arrival programme now expanded to include eligible passport holders from six additional countries who meet the residency requirements. The update gives more travellers the opportunity to obtain a visa when they arrive in the Emirates, making the entry process simpler for those who qualify. Here’s everything you need to know, including which countries have been added, the residency permits that are accepted, how long you can stay, and what the visa will cost.
Which countries have been added?
Citizens of the following countries can now qualify for a UAE visa on arrival:
- Indonesia
- Vietnam
- Thailand
- Philippines
- Kenya
- South Africa
The new rules also apply to accompanying family members travelling together.
Who is eligible?
To qualify, travellers must hold a valid ordinary passport from one of the six countries above and have a valid residence permit from one of the following:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Any European Union country
- Canada
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Singapore
- Japan
- South Korea
What visa options are available?
Eligible visitors can choose between two visa options on arrival:
14-day visa
- Costs Dhs100
- Can be extended once while in the UAE
60-day visa
- Costs Dhs250
- Valid for one stay only
- Cannot be extended
Travellers must leave the UAE before their visa expires. Anyone who overstays will be charged a fine of Dhs50 per day.
Why the change?
The update is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to make travel more convenient while strengthening ties with partner countries. Officials say the expanded scheme is expected to encourage more tourism, business travel and investment, while making it easier for eligible visitors to experience and explore everything the UAE has to offer
