Excitement is building at the Jinja-based Hotel and Tourism Training College (HTTC) as the lone government-owned tourism and hospitality training institution prepares to pass out a total of 366 graduands on Friday, November 28.

The ceremony will be presided over by His Royal Highness William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV as special guest, with the Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Col. (Rtd) Tom Butime, serving as guest of honour. A host of other dignitaries is expected to grace the occasion.

During a pre-graduation press briefing, the college’s publicist, Mr. Daniel Kazungu, confirmed that preparations were in high gear to receive hundreds of parents, guardians, and invited guests.

Mr. Kazungu noted that of the 366 graduands, 81 are male–accounting for 22 per cent–while 285 are female, making up 78 per cent of the cohort.

“The 366 graduands include 83 apprentices sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and three graduands who pursued specialized short courses,” he said.

He further explained that the apprenticeship model is a form of training tailored to the needs of employers, offering learners the opportunity to acquire hands-on skills from industry experts who are masters of their craft.

The college Principal, Mr. Richard Kawere, stated that the graduands have gained knowledge, competence, confidence, creativity, and a spirit of innovation–qualities that define true professionals in the hospitality and tourism sector.

“Many of the graduands have already secured employment, a clear sign of the demand for the skills they possess,” Mr. Kawere said.

He added that the college is on a continuous journey of development and pursuit of excellence, as reflected in its elevation to college status under the TVET Act of 2025.
