Donald Trump celebrated the success of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium. The U.S. president watched the match alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino before stepping onto the pitch for the medal ceremony and trophy presentation.
Trump praised the event and congratulated FIFA on delivering what he described as a historic competition. After the final, he spoke to reporters and highlighted the success of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“I thought FIFA was incredible. There has never been anything like it in terms of an event. We are very proud of our country and the work done by everyone involved.” He also congratulated Infantino and his team, adding: “This was one of the greatest events ever organized. People came from all over the world, and they loved our country”, he declared
Trump also acknowledged that he had expected some stadiums to remain partially empty before the tournament, but full crowds changed his opinion.
Trump also revealed that the United States will immediately submit a new bid to host another FIFA World Cup. He joked with Infantino by saying: “We have to start again while I’m still here. You have to choose two countries. Announce our bid next time, and then another country’s.”The American president expressed his determination to bring another tournament to the United States, while FIFA closed the competition after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
