Western Cape police have confirmed the arrest of four suspected gang members in connection with the murder of a Bonteheuwel spaza shop owner.
Police said the arrests were linked to an investigation into extortion targeting spaza shops in the area.
Spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said the arrests came amid a recent spike in extortion cases in Bonteheuwel.
“The four suspects between the ages of 31 and 43 were arrested for extortion and murder. They are alleged to have been terrorising spaza shop owners in Bonteheuwel, demanding protection fees and closing down their shops. They are also linked to a murder of a 31-year-old spaza shop owner at Assegai Street on Monday 13 July 2026.”
