The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has welcomed Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi’s approval of an inquest into the brutal killing of five children by the apartheid army in 1993.
The victims, aged between 12 and 17, were shot dead at the Mthatha home of PAC activist Sigqibo Mpendulo. At the time, they had been preparing for their final exams when soldiers stormed the house and opened fire. The South African Defence Force later admitted responsibility for the attack.

Families Seek Justice and Closure
PAC President Mzwanele Nyhontso expressed the party’s frustration at the slow pace of apartheid-era inquests and prosecutions. He emphasised that the families of the victims have waited far too long for justice.
“We also hope that this inquest will bring closure to the families of the deceased. We also hope that for the first time, we will be able to know who pulled the trigger and killed these children in that house,” said Nyhontso.
The PAC believes this inquest could finally shed light on the unanswered questions that have haunted the victims’ families for decades.

Nyhontso added: “We also hope that we will know who collaborated with them and led them straight to the house where these kids were sleeping, so we are hoping for the best.”
The inquest marks another attempt to bring accountability for the atrocities committed under apartheid and ensure that justice is not denied to victims and their families.
