The African National Congress (ANC) will convene its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Rustenburg, North West, on Monday morning.

The one-day meeting is expected to focus on final preparations for the party’s January 8 Statement, as well as logistics for its main 114th anniversary celebration rally scheduled to take place at Moruleng Stadium on Saturday.

The ANC will mark its 114th birthday in Moruleng, outside Rustenburg, later this week, with senior party leaders expected to descend on the area ahead of the main event.

As part of the programme, ANC top officials — including party president Cyril Ramaphosa — will pay a courtesy visit to Kgosi Nyalala Pilane of the Bakgatla ba Kgafela.

The visit forms part of long-standing African custom and tradition, which requires political organisations to consult and inform traditional leadership before holding activities within their areas of jurisdiction.

Following the meeting with Kgosi Pilane, ANC leaders are also expected to hold engagements with the broader traditional leadership of the North West province.

These consultations are set to form a key part of the party’s build-up to the January 8 celebrations, which remain a significant date on the ANC’s political calendar.
