Nigeria defeated the Black Satellites 2-0 during the group stage of the 2022 WAFU B tournament in Niamey.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will renew their rivalry with Ghana after both countries were placed in the same group for the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship.

Wednesday’s draw placed Nigeria alongside Ghana’s Black Satellites, Burkina Faso and Togo in Group B of the regional tournament.

The championship will serve as the qualifying competition for the 2027 <a href="https://absafricatv.com/europe-africa-fuel-availability-outlook-15-july/” title=”Europe & Africa Fuel Availability Outlook 15 July”>Africa U20 Cup of Nations, which Ghana will host.

Hosts and defending champions Côte d’Ivoire were drawn in Group A with Niger and Benin Republic.

The meeting with Ghana presents another chapter in one of West African youth football’s fiercest rivalries.

Nigeria defeated the Black Satellites 2-0 during the group stage of the 2022 WAFU B tournament in Niamey.

The Flying Eagles subsequently overcame Côte d’Ivoire in the semi-finals before beating Benin Republic 3-1 in the final to claim their first WAFU B title.

Nigeria retained the trophy in 2024 after defeating Ghana 2-1 in the final in Lomé.

Kparobo Arierhi scored twice in the first half to secure the victory for the Flying Eagles.

Nigeria’s attempt to win a third consecutive title ended in heartbreak at the most recent edition when Côte d’Ivoire scored a stoppage-time goal to claim a 1-0 victory in the final.

The Flying Eagles had previously reached the final of the competition’s inaugural edition in 2018.

Beyond the regional title, Nigeria will be seeking qualification for the 2027 U20 AFCON in Ghana.

The continental competition will feature 12 countries, with its four semi-finalists securing places at the FIFA U20 World Cup.

The Flying Eagles will now begin preparations for their group matches against Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo
