The EDHE Absa Studentpreneurs Indaba 2026 is taking over the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre on 10 and 11 September.
Organised by Universities South Africa (USAf) through the Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) programme, alongside Absa, the event will host budding student entrepreneurs, academics, and investors.
Now in its ninth year, the theme is “Entrepreneurship in Action: From Vision to Implementation. From Policy to Impact.”
It aims to tackle youth unemployment head-on by giving students the tools to create their own jobs instead of waiting around for employment.
Dr Edwell Gumbo, Director of Entrepreneurship at USAf, said universities must become breeding grounds for successful business owners.
“We cannot afford to continue preparing young people only to enter a job market that does not have enough jobs to absorb them,” said Gumbo.
“The Indaba is about building the bridge between a good idea and its meaningful implementation. We want students to leave not simply inspired, but better equipped, better connected and ready to act.”
The gathering brings together talent from all 26 public universities across the country.
Last year’s event drew 466 participants from more than 76 institutions, including delegates from Lesotho, Zambia, and Tanzania.
Absa’s partnership with EDHE includes the Studentpreneurs Indaba and the EDHE Absa Innovation Challenge, giving student founders a shot at funding, mentorship, and pitching to real investors.
