Carrim has filed several applications to have his testimony at the commission postponed due to ill health.

In April, Carrim was admitted to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack at a Sandton gym.

Chief evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson said the commission has received two whistleblower reports alleging Carrim was recently spotted roaming around in the Western Cape.

“We have subpoenaed CCTV footage from the shopping centre, and we expect to have it received and thoroughly analysed by midday tomorrow [Thursday]. We have a concern Carrim may be taking liberties with this commission, and that concern is amplified by other whistleblower reports indicating Mr Carrim has been seen at social gatherings in the North West over his period of ostensible incapacity.”
