CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe Highlights Structural Transformation of <a href="https://absafricatv.com/club-med-south-africa-beach-safari-hotel-review/” title=”Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari – Hotel Review”>African Football

African football is experiencing major structural changes that have strengthened its commercial value and international investment appeal, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, as reported by QNA. Speaking on Thursday during a session at the Global Perspectives: In Doha event, organized by CNN with Media City Qatar, Motsepe said substantial investment in the sport would generate job opportunities and support infrastructure development, women’s football and youth sports academies, while also raising prize money for African tournaments.

He said these efforts are already producing results by expanding Africa’s economic and sporting impact globally, developing talent and stars, and turning football into a platform for education and development. Asked about investment and profitability in global football, Motsepe stressed that any football venture must be sustainable and

He cited the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which he said was followed by 3.5 billion people across 180 countries and generated 6.2 billion digital views. He also praised the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 for its legacy, international engagement and viewership, and its positive effect on the image of football and sport more broadly.

Motsepe noted the large sums required by the global football industry and said CAF aims to attract a share of those investments to develop young talent in Africa, alongside the ambition of seeing an African national team crowned world champion. He expressed support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and underlined the importance of collective work with all stakeholders to develop the sport.

In a panel discussion on governance and ethics in football, the CAF President described those elements as fundamental pillars for a successful future for Africa and for the wider game. On whether the Africa Cup of Nations should be held every four years or remain on its current biennial schedule, Motsepe said there is broad debate among African federations. He noted that he recently announced a study and review of the matter, that there is popular support for keeping the two-year cycle, and that a final decision will be announced soon in the interests of African football.

The session also examined football’s economic and commercial dimensions and how it has grown into an industry generating billions of dollars. It addressed shifts including the expansion of the 2026 World Cup to 48 teams and the use of the sustainable legacy left by the World Cup in Qatar, as well as the growth of African football, the role Africa is expected to play and the challenges facing FIFA.
