Piraeus Port Authority S.A. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Technical University of Athens to strengthen cooperation on research, innovation, and sustainable port development at Greece’s largest port.
Partnership targets digital and environmental priorities
The agreement creates a framework for joint research projects, educational initiatives, and knowledge sharing between the port operator and one of Greece’s leading engineering institutions. Both organisations will work together on smart port technologies, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, maritime safety, and logistics.
As ports face increasing pressure to improve efficiency while reducing environmental impacts, partnerships between industry and academia are becoming more common. The collaboration aims to combine scientific research with operational experience to develop practical solutions for real world port challenges.
Research supports long term port development
Han Chao, Chairman of Piraeus Port Authority S.A., said the agreement strengthens the connection between academia and the port sector by combining the university’s scientific expertise with the company’s operational knowledge.
He said the partnership creates the conditions to develop advanced solutions that will support the sustainable development of the Port of Piraeus.
The National Technical University of Athens said its long established scientific expertise will contribute to innovative solutions that address the evolving needs of both the port industry and the wider Greek economy.
