NRBC Bank PLC Managing Director and CEO Dr Md Touhidul Alam Khan has said that building a cashless ecosystem in Bangladesh is essential for promoting financial inclusion, good governance, transparency and wider economic participation through digital payments.
He made the remarks while presenting a paper at the 12th International Sustainable Development Conference (SDC-2026), held in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 15 to 17.
Dr Khan presented a paper titled “Smart Bangladesh in Action: Strengthening Financial Inclusion through a Cashless Ecosystem.”
He stressed the need for a secure, efficient and accessible digital payment ecosystem to support Bangladesh’s transition to a smart, technology-driven and inclusive economy.
He said reducing dependence on cash through digital payment solutions is one of the most practical ways to achieve the country’s smart development goals.
Academics, professionals and government representatives from several countries were present at the conference to discuss sustainable development, climate change, renewable energy, green technologies and public policies aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr Khan was also selected as a member of the Scientific Committee of SDC-2026 in recognition of his expertise and contribution to sustainable development.
