Australia Leads as a Prime Spot for Wildlife Observation
According to Tourism.d.ua — Туризм: Australia has been named the most sought-after destination for wildlife viewing, according to a study conducted by the travel company Explore, which surveyed 2,400 individuals across 12 countries. The research highlighted a 211% annual surge in searches for ‘wildlife holidays.’ A significant 38% of respondents ranked Australia as their number one choice for observing wild animals, far outpacing other popular locations.
South Africa secured second place, chosen by 11% of participants, while Kenya took third with 9%. Canada followed at 7%, and China rounded out the top five with 6%. These findings underscore a growing global fascination with wildlife and natural landscapes.
Tourists’ Favorite Animals
When it comes to the creatures that captivate travelers most, 41% of survey participants expressed a desire to see the giant panda. Elephants and kangaroos each attracted 32% of respondents, while 30% hoped to encounter a koala, and 29% dreamed of spotting whales. This has led to the emergence of a new ‘Big Five’:

Dr. Yuriy Kvach, a Doctor of Biological Sciences, noted that the chance to see wild animals is a key factor in vacation planning, a trend confirmed by the survey. For instance, Botswana’s Chobe National Park boasts the largest elephant population—up to 120,000—making it a prime destination for those eager to witness these majestic creatures.
As a result, Australia and other countries offering unique wildlife experiences are increasingly appealing to travelers who value connecting with nature and its inhabitants. The rising interest in wild animals is opening new opportunities for the tourism industry.
This strong demand for wildlife encounters, reflected in the spike in travel queries to Australia, signals a shift in consumer preferences within the tourism sector. It highlights the importance of ecotourism and the need to preserve natural habitats.
