FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted the worldwide influence of the new FIFA Africa office, set to open in Rabat, Morocco, in 2025. He explained that this facility transcends a mere sports hub, functioning instead as a central point for Moroccan and African football, and playing a crucial part in global football endeavors.

The Rabat office forms a key component of FIFA’s broader strategy to enhance regional ties with its 211 member associations globally. This network already features established offices in Paris, Miami, and Jakarta, all dedicated to advancing FIFA’s objective of fostering football’s worldwide expansion.

Infantino lauded Morocco for its substantial contributions to the sport, noting the country’s growing international stature. He specifically recognized Moroccan administrator Fauzi Lekja, who holds positions as the first vice president of CAF and a FIFA Council member. Lekja’s guidance has been vital for various development initiatives, such as the advanced Academie Mohammed Sea de Football in Saleh.

Morocco’s football accomplishments encompass notable historical events, including its men’s national team reaching a World Cup semi-final and its women’s team progressing to the knockout rounds of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Furthermore, the nation is set to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, commemorating the sport’s hundredth anniversary.

Infantino extended his appreciation to His Majesty King Mohammed the 6th and the Royal Morocco Football Federation for their backing and input. He further recognized the attendance and endorsement from the 54 CAF member associations and their respective leaders, underscoring the collective work necessary to further develop football across Africa and worldwide.
