The Indian car giant Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPVL) is set to add the Nexon to its <a href="https://absafricatv.com/ghana-gold-mine-changes-hands-in-66-5-million-deal-between-south-african-and-australian-firms/” title=”Ghana gold mine changes hands in $66.5 million deal between South African and Australian firms”>South African portfolio and sell it as the Osprey. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles South Africa hasn’t given out any details on the upcoming Osprey. However, similar to the Nexon, the Osprey will also be sold with a five-star NCAP safety rating.

The Tata Osprey will join the automaker’s South African portfolio along the ICE-powered Tiago, Punch, Curvv and the Harrier.

According to TMPVL, the name is inspired by a bird of prey commonly found in several parts of South Africa. The company’s passenger vehicles portfolio is aimed at private buyers, fleet operators and institutional customers.

The Osprey is expected to come with a 1.2L three-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine producing approximately 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. It will be paired with a five-speed manual, six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCA). The Osprey has been optimised to handle the distinct environmental and infrastructure conditions of the local market.

Tata Motors PV works with local distributors to manage vehicle sales, customer support and maintenance services. Its distribution model is supported by sales, after-sales service and spare parts availability through authorised dealer partners.

In recent years, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles introduced electric passenger vehicles in selected African markets where charging infrastructure and policy support are gradually developing.

The Osprey will be the latest model introduced since the company’s return in August 2025. The company had pulled out of the passenger vehicle business in the country due to low sales in 2019, but re-entered the market through a partnership with Motus Holdings. Since then, the Tata group firm has expanded its portfolio, with the Osprey being the fifth passenger vehicle in the country.
