Organisers of the 2026 Pan-Afrikan Drum Festival have announced plans for 4th edition of the annual cultural event, saying it will focus on promoting African cultural heritage, youth empowerment and international collaboration.
The two-day festival, scheduled for July 23 and 24 in Toronto, Canada, is being organised by the Canada-based Drum Online Organisation known as Pan-Afrikan in partnership with the Global Forum for Human Rights and Sustainable Development, GFHRSD, a United Nations recognised organisation.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Convener of the festival, Prince Segun Akanni, said the theme, ‘Re-engineering Afro-Canadians’ Cultural Heritage for Real Growth, Inclusivity and Sustainable Development,’ reflects the organisers’ commitment to preserving African values while promoting multicultural harmony and sustainable development.
According to him, the festival has grown into one of Canada’s foremost platforms for celebrating African culture, fostering community engagement and strengthening cultural diplomacy.
Akanni said activities would begin on July 23 with a Youth Empowerment Programme at the Brampton City Hall Conservatory, scheduled to run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., where participants would be equipped with entrepreneurial, leadership and vocational skills.
He stated that the event debuted in Mississauga before moving to Toronto and Etobicoke, and now returns to Toronto for its fourth edition, reflecting its growing influence within Canada’s multicultural landscape.
He said the training would cover lip gloss production, custom cloth printing, herbal hair oil production and gypsum art, alongside sessions on leadership, entrepreneurship, anti-racism, human rights, cultural identity, nation-building, intergenerational mentorship and economic empowerment.
Akanni disclosed that the festival would climax on July 24 with a grand finale at Wesley Banquet Hall, North York, Toronto, featuring traditional African drumming, cultural dance performances, African fashion displays and networking opportunities.
He added that the event would also witness the presentation of the Pan-Afrikan Drum Festival Award of Cultural Excellence and Youth Recognition and Empowerment Awards to distinguished personalities from Canada, Africa and other parts of the world for their contributions to African culture, leadership, youth development, community service and humanitarian causes.
He explained that delegates are expected from Canada, the United States, Europe, Africa and other parts of the world, a development he said underscores the festival’s growing international profile.
He noted that the influx of visitors would “boost Canada’s tourism, hospitality and transportation sectors while supporting local businesses.”
Akani reiterated that the vision of the festival is to build bridges among communities through culture, education and youth empowerment while nurturing future leaders who would serve as ambassadors of peace, unity and inclusion.
“The initiative is designed to encourage innovation among young people and prepare them to become responsible leaders capable of making meaningful contributions to their communities.

He also expressed appreciation to the Government of Canada, sponsors, community partners, volunteers, traditional rulers and cultural organisations for their support, saying members of the public, diplomatic representatives, students, families and cultural enthusiasts are expected to participate in the international celebration.
