Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary has urged young people across theAssociation of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa(AMECEA) region to exercise responsibility in their use of social media, warning that inappropriate online conduct could jeopardize opportunities for scholarships, employment, and international travel.
Speaking during theofficial openingof the AMECEA 21st Plenary Assembly at theCatholic University of Eastern Africa(CUEA) in Nairobi on Monday, July 20,Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, encouraged young people to embrace digital technology while remaining morally responsible both online and offline.
“I urge you to exercise personal responsibility online, ensuring that your social media activities safeguard rather than jeopardize opportunities such as scholarships, visas, and employment,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi warned that an increasing number of young people are losing opportunities because of undesirable content posted on their social media platforms, saying, “Please be careful. You could lose your scholarship. You could lose your opportunity elsewhere.
Mudavadi, who represented the President of the Republic of Kenya,William Samoei Ruto, at the Plenary Assembly, described young people at the event as “the voice, energy, and future” of the African continent and encouraged them to use their gifts to promote peace and innovation.
