OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — Cameroonian football icon Samuel Eto’o has been recognized as the sole Cameroonian figure honored at the newly inaugurated Rue des Étoiles in Burkina Faso. The tribute, unveiled in the capital, Ouagadougou, celebrates 140 African personalities who have left a lasting impact across various fields, including sports, politics, and business.

The Rue des Étoiles, located along the historic Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, serves as a symbolic landmark honoring individuals who have shaped Africa’s history and legacy. Among those commemorated are Burkina Faso’s revolutionary leader Thomas Sankara, Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba, Senegalese star Sadio Mané, and Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote.

Eto’o, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest footballers, joins this distinguished group in recognition of his contributions to the sport and his influence beyond the field. The initiative not only celebrates past achievements but also aims to inspire future generations by highlighting the accomplishments of African pioneers.

The project, organizers say, is a testament to Africa’s rich heritage, showcasing the continent’s diverse talents and fostering a sense of unity and pride. The commemorative plaques along the street serve as a lasting tribute to those who have played pivotal roles in shaping African history.

The Rue des Étoiles is expected to become a cultural and historical landmark, drawing visitors and locals alike to reflect on the achievements of those honored. Organizers hope the initiative will encourage young Africans to pursue excellence in their respective fields, reinforcing the legacy of the continent’s trailblazers.
