AFR-IX Telecom and Raxio
Group have announced a strategic partnership to strengthen digital
infrastructure and connectivity across Portuguese-speaking Africa, with a focus
on expanding services in Angola and Mozambique.
Under the collaboration,
AFR-IX Telecom will deploy its network infrastructure within Raxio’s
carrier-neutral data centres in Angola and Mozambique, providing enterprises,
internet service providers, mobile network operators and cloud providers with
enhanced access to regional and international connectivity.
The companies said the
partnership is designed to meet growing demand for cloud computing, artificial
intelligence applications and data-intensive digital services while reinforcing
the position of Angola and Mozambique as emerging digital gateways for West-Central
and Southern Africa.
AFR-IX selected Raxio’s
facilities based on their Tier III-certified infrastructure, making them the
first independent carrier-neutral data centres in both countries to achieve the
internationally recognised certification for mission-critical operations. The
certification provides high levels of reliability, redundancy and service
availability.
The partnership seeks to
address longstanding challenges associated with internet traffic routing in
Africa, where data has traditionally been routed through overseas networks,
increasing latency and operating costs. By combining Raxio’s colocation infrastructure
with AFR-IX Telecom’s terrestrial and subsea network assets, customers are
expected to benefit from greater network diversity, improved resilience and
more efficient traffic routing.
Dylan Carver, Account
Director at AFR-IX Telecom, said the expansion into Raxio’s facilities
represents an important milestone in the company’s strategy to deliver
high-quality local connectivity across Africa.
He noted that integrating
AFR-IX’s network capabilities with Raxio’s infrastructure would create a strong
platform for supporting the continued growth of digital services in Angola,
Mozambique and neighbouring markets.
Raxio Group Business
Development Director Maggy Maina said the partnership aligns with the company’s
strategy of building relationships with telecommunications carriers and
strategic partners to provide customers with seamless access to digital
infrastructure across multiple African markets.
She added that combining
Raxio’s Tier III-certified carrier-neutral data centres with AFR-IX Telecom’s
extensive network infrastructure would strengthen digital ecosystems by
improving connectivity, resilience and customer choice.
Customers operating from
Raxio’s facilities in Luanda and Mozambique will gain direct access to AFR-IX
Telecom’s pan-African network and its AS Cone network, improving connectivity
to regional and international destinations while supporting more efficient
internet traffic exchange.
The partnership also
provides a scalable platform for global cloud providers and content delivery
networks seeking to expand operations in Southern and West-Central Africa
through sustainable, high-density digital infrastructure.
