The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc, <a href="https://abs<a href="https://absafricatv.com/who-is-driving-diplomacy-in-the-horn-of-africa-and-the-red-sea-and-why/” title=”Who is driving diplomacy in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, and why?”>africatv.com/when-theodore-roosevelt-came-to-buganda/” title=”When Theodore Roosevelt came to Buganda”>Roosevelt Ogbonna, has stated that African financial institutions possess the capacity to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s best.

Speaking after the bank’s record-breaking performance at the 2026 Euromoney Awards for Excellence, Ogbonna said the achievement demonstrates that African financial institutions can compete successfully on the global stage.

He said, “These awards are a tribute to the trust our customers place in us, the dedication of our employees and the strength of the communities and markets we serve.

“More importantly, they affirm that our commitment to innovation, customer excellence, sustainability and responsible growth continues to deliver meaningful impact at scale.”

The pan-African banking giant secured 16 distinct honours at this year’s awards, cutting across critical banking segments such as digital banking, SME development, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable finance across its diverse regional footprints.

For a bank that has spent the last two decades aggressively expanding its retail and corporate franchise across 25 countries and three continents, the CEO noted that the global recognition is the fruit of a long-term strategic vision.

“Across our network, we have remained focused on building solutions that help individuals, businesses and institutions thrive in an increasingly connected world.

“This recognition validates years of disciplined execution and reinforces our belief that African institutions can compete successfully at the highest global standards,” he added.

With a customer base now exceeding 60 million and a footprint that stretches into international commercial hubs like London, Dubai, Mumbai, and Shanghai, Access Bank has positioned itself as a primary gateway facilitating trade and investment between Africa and the rest of the world.

Despite celebrating what is arguably one of the most dominant performances by an African bank in Euromoney history, Ogbonna maintained that the institution is not resting on its laurels.

“We are deeply grateful to our customers, partners and employees whose confidence and commitment make achievements such as this possible.

“While we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on the future, committed to raising the bar for excellence, creating long-term value and supporting Africa’s transformation through world-class financial services,” he added.
