Airtel Africa plans to list its mobile money business, Airtel Money, on the London Stock Exchange in the second half of 2026, as the telecom operator looks to unlock the value of one of Africa’s fastest-growing fintech platforms while tapping a wider international investor base.
The London-listed telecom company said the initial public offering (IPO), originally expected earlier, has been pushed back due to cost pressures stemming from the conflict in West Asia, which has driven up energy and logistics expenses.

“We believe a London listing will provide access to a broad international investor base and support our ambition to unlock the long-term value of one of Africa’s leading fintech platforms,” chief executive officer Sunil Taldar said, according to a report by news agency Reuters.
Airtel Money is the group’s third-largest business and offers digital payment, money transfer and financial services across several African markets. A separate listing is expected to allow investors to value the fintech business independently from Airtel Africa’s core telecommunications operations.
Margins under pressure despite strong quarter
Alongside the IPO announcement, Airtel Africa cautioned that its near-term core profit margins are likely to remain under pressure, marking the second such warning in the last four months.
The company attributed the outlook to elevated energy costs linked to the Iran conflict, which has disrupted crude oil supplies and global supply chains, increasing fuel, transportation and operating expenses for businesses.

Despite the challenging cost environment, Airtel Africa reported a strong performance for the quarter ended June, driven by continued demand for mobile connectivity, rising adoption of digital services and artificial intelligence, as well as favourable currency movements.
The company posted higher first-quarter revenue and profit, reflecting sustained subscriber growth and increased usage of data and digital financial services across its markets.
The planned Airtel Money IPO is expected to be closely watched by investors, as mobile money businesses across Africa have emerged as key growth drivers for telecom operators amid rising smartphone penetration and increasing adoption of digital payments.
