Buea – In a unique event that promises to shape the trajectory of Ambazonia’s freedom struggle, Ambazonians at home and abroad are set to convene this Saturday for a town hall meeting featuring a global authority on conflict resolution, Quintin Oliver from Ireland. With decades of experience in brokering peace and navigating high-stakes negotiations, Ambazonians have much to glean from Quintin’s expertise.
Quintin is no stranger to resolving entrenched conflicts. As the architect behind the “Yes” campaign that secured the resounding endorsement for the 1998 Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland, his contributions to peacebuilding are legendary. That agreement ended decades of violence in Northern Ireland and remains a shining example of how dialogue and diplomacy can transform seemingly intractable disputes.
Quintin gave up his professional career to focus on the Good Friday Agreement referendum campaign, spearheading a cross-party effort that united diverse factions for a common goal. Today, as Director of Stratagem International, a company he founded following the success of the Good Friday Agreement, he advises nations and organizations worldwide on strategies to navigate the complexities of conflict and achieve lasting peace.
His expertise extends far beyond Northern Ireland. Quintin has lent his skills to conflict resolution efforts in places such as:
- South Africa, during its transition from apartheid.
- Sri Lanka, where ethnic tensions demanded innovative peacebuilding strategies.
- Cyprus, in addressing the longstanding division of the island.
- Colombia, in the peace processes involving FARC and the Colombian government.
This level of expertise is why Ambazonia’s Interim Government has sought him out to address the critical steps needed for a successful negotiated settlement.
What to Expect
Quintin Oliver will speak on several vital topics, including:
- The Road to Negotiations: What Ambazonians should anticipate as they push for dialogue with Cameroon.
- The Role of a Referendum: Why securing the people’s mandate is essential and how it strengthens any agreement.
- Lobbying for Peace: The importance of lobbying key stakeholders, including the international community, to ensure that Ambazonia’s voice is heard and respected during negotiations.
Following the presentation, he will engage directly with attendees in a Q&A session, making this a rare opportunity to hear from and interact with one of the world’s foremost conflict resolution experts.
