The African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg has pushed back against allegations that its recent regional elective conference was compromised, insisting that any concerns must be raised through established party structures.

The dispute follows the party’s December conference, where former regional chairperson Dada Morero lost his position to Loyiso Masuku, prompting claims of irregularities in the voting process.

Morero has since written to the ANC’s provincial leadership, alleging that the conference was not conducted fairly and that the outcome may have been influenced by improper practices.

During the regional conference, accusations surfaced that money had been used to sway voting in the tightly contested leadership race between Morero and Masuku.

These claims added to growing unease among some party members who questioned the credibility of the outcome.

Further doubts were raised over the weekend after ballot papers believed to have been used at the conference were reportedly found at a house in Pretoria, intensifying calls for clarity around the handling of voting materials.

Addressing the matter at a media briefing on Monday night, the ANC’s newly elected Johannesburg leadership dismissed suggestions that the conference process was flawed.

ANC regional secretary Sasabona Manganye said members who feel aggrieved should be allowed to voice their concerns through the appropriate internal mechanisms.

“They followed the correct processes of going to the party’s structures to ask them to hear them out. I don’t think they are bitter, they are following ANC process.”

Manganye firmly denied allegations that the conference was rigged, maintaining that no money was used to influence voting and that the process complied with ANC procedures.
