Black Queens welcome new Video Analyst ahead of Women’s AFCON

The Black Queens have bolstered their technical staff for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by appointing James Slaughter, a Swedish performance analyst, as their new Video Analyst.

Originally from Malmö, Sweden, Slaughter joins the Black Queens following a distinguished tenure at Malmö FF, one of Sweden’s most successful football clubs and a major force in Scandinadvanced to become the club’s Head of Performance Analysis

Slaughter conveyed his enthusiasm for joining the Ghanaian team, characterizing the <a href="https://absafricatv.com/f5-ceo-on-massive-ai-security-opportunity-llms-are-a-vulnerable-technology-today/” title=”F5 CEO On Massive AI Security Opportunity: LLMs Are ‘A Vulnerable Technology Today’”>opportunity as a distinct privilege.

“I love working in football and being part of a team. Representing a country, especially a beautiful country like Ghana, is one of the biggest honours you can have,” he said.

He further mentioned that previous colleagues, having served with Ghana’s national squads, had praised the nation’s football culture, motivating him to embrace this fresh challenge.

In his capacity as Video Analyst, Slaughter’s contributions will be pivotal to the Black Queens’ readiness. His responsibilities include recording all training sessions and games, thereby assisting the coaching staff in evaluating performances, pinpointing crucial learning opportunities for athletes, and dissecting opponents to formulate successful match strategies.

“I help the coaches pick out important clips and situations so we can improve the players, while also studying our opponents to understand their strengths and weaknesses,” he explained.

Collaborating closely with Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren and assistant coach/performance analyst Ronny, Slaughter is convinced that video analysis offers the minor competitive edges frequently determining the outcome of tightly contested games.

“In football, the margins are very small. Video analysis is about finding that extra two or three percent that can make the difference. Ultimately, though, it’s the players who win the games.”

As the Black Queens prepare to encounter formidable adversaries in the group stage, Slaughter recognized that collecting data on less familiar teams like Cape Verde poses unique difficulties, yet he characterized it as an exhilarating aspect of his work.

Prior to WAFCON 2026, the Swedish analyst has expressed his complete dedication to assisting Ghana in achieving success.

“We’ll work until the very last percent. We’ll workday and night to make the people of Ghana proud and create good results and unforgettable memories,” he said.

While the Black Queens proceed with their preparations, Slaughter’s specialized knowledge in performance analysis is anticipated to offer significant assistance to the technical staff as Ghana targets a successful showing at WAFCON 2026.
