Burna Boy just became Africa’s best-selling artist ever. He moved 14.46 million equivalent album units across the world, based on data from Chartmasters, a platform that tracks music sales. The Nigerian star edged past Wizkid, who held the record at 14.426 million equivalent album sales.

The Debut Hub broke the news on X. They pulled their numbers from Chartmasters. Those units count studio albums, compilations, physical singles, and streaming equivalents all rolled into one.

Equivalent Album Units work as a standard measure in the music business. It converts singles, streams, and purchases into one album sale. This allows traditional album buys to stack up against digital downloads and streaming activity on various platforms.

The Port Harcourt-born singer shot to worldwide fame with his 2018 hit “Ye.” After that, he dropped African Giant in 2019 and Love, Damini in 2022. Both projects racked up serious streams and landed among the most-played African albums on the platform.

African Giant and Love, Damini pulled in billions of streams. Yes, that’s actually billions. The GRAMMY winner also put out Twice as Tall, adding more weight to his sales totals.

He’s packed major venues around the planet — London Stadium, Madison Square Garden, Stade de France. He was also the first African artist to cross various streaming records.

His collab with Shakira on “Dai Dai,” the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pushed him further into international territory. He’s taken stages at the FIFA World Cup Final, UEFA Champions League Final, NBA All-Star Game, and the GRAMMY Awards.

This ranking plants another flag for the GRAMMY-winning performer. He’s become one of Africa’s biggest music artists of the moment, and the latest Chartmasters data proves his reach stretches far across the global music business.
