Acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has commended the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under President Ibrahim Musa Gusau for its ambitious infrastructure projects, describing them as a lasting legacy for Nigerian football
Adamu made the remarks on Monday after inspecting the ongoing NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches under construction at Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja
The CAF official expressed admiration for the scale and quality of the facilities, saying they would provide a solid foundation for the development of future generations of Nigerian footballers
“Being a Nigerian and seeing what is being built here, I can only be proud. The future looks extremely bright,” Adamu said
“This is the type of facility that will help produce the next Jay-Jay Okocha and many more great players. It is important for a country of Nigeria’s size to have infrastructure capable of accommodating all the national teams and age-grade categories while bringing together talented players from across the country to be nurtured. I congratulate the leadership of the NFF for this laudable legacy project.”
Adamu, who is on a working visit to Nigeria to assess preparations for the CAF Congress and CAF Awards planned for the country, also thanked the NFF and the Federal Government for their hospitality
NFF President Gusau reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to completing the project within the agreed two-year timeline. He revealed that construction, which began in March 2025, has entered its 15th month, leaving about nine months before completion
According to Gusau, one of the artificial pitches is already about 80 per cent completed, while work is progressing steadily on other sections of the project
“I am satisfied with the pace and quality of work on the site,” Gusau said. “The project’s proximity to the NFF headquarters allows us to carry out regular inspections. Work is progressing well, and we will continue to support the contractors to ensure the project is completed within the agreed period.”
The NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and training complex is expected to serve as a central base for Nigeria’s various national teams and provide world-class facilities for player development
