Applications are now open for the Transforming African MedTech Conference (TAMC) 2026, inviting innovative MedTech and Biotech startups from across Africa to showcase groundbreaking medical device and healthcare technologies at one of the continent’s leading health innovation conferences
Organized by African MedTech in collaboration with ecosystem partners, TAMC 2026 will bring together innovators, entrepreneurs, clinicians, policymakers, investors, manufacturers, and development partners to advance Africa’s medical technology ecosystem. The conference will be held from 25–27 August 2026 at the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme “Building a Connected, Competitive, and Transformative African Health System Industry.”

Applications are now open for the Digital Skills Development Programme (Cohort II), a free 12-week digital skills training initiative by the Women Environmental Programme (WEP) under the WomenPower2030: Feminist Accelerate Action for Sustainable Development Project
The programme is designed to equip young girls, women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) with practical digital and ICT skills that enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and participation in the digital economy
Programme Benefits

Programme Duration
The training will run for 12 weeks (3 months) and combines practical, hands-on learning with real-world digital applications to prepare participants for employment and entrepreneurship

The Federal Government has launched Phase II of the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Social Dimension of Ecological Transition Project, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy creates decent jobs, strengthens businesses and promotes inclusive economic growth
The project, funded by the French Government through the ILO’s technical cooperation programme, was launched in Abuja with government officials, employers, workers’ organisations, development partners and climate experts in attendance. The second phase will run from 2025 to 2029 and is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s just transition agenda
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, said the renewed partnership presents an opportunity to move beyond policy discussions to practical implementation
According to him, Nigeria’s climate agenda must also advance decent work, social justice, sustainable enterprise development and inclusive economic growth
The minister explained that the second phase of the project will build on the achievements of the first phase by supporting sustainable businesses, creating green jobs and strengthening the resilience of communities across the country
He noted that the initial phase helped strengthen national capacity through research, stakeholder engagement and policy development, leading to the creation of Nigeria’s Just Transition Guidelines and Action Plan
Dingyadi stressed that implementation will determine the program’s success, calling on government agencies, employers, workers and development partners to work together to translate commitments into investments, policies into programs and programs into measurable results for Nigerians
For MSMEs, the initiative presents opportunities to benefit from emerging green economy value chains, clean energy investments and sustainable business practices. As Nigeria advances its climate commitments, small businesses operating in renewable energy, waste management, sustainable agriculture, green manufacturing and climate-smart services could gain access to new markets, partnerships and employment opportunities
Speaking at the event, Vanessa Phala said the project has become an important platform for promoting a just transition in Nigeria
She highlighted achievements recorded during the first phase, including capacity building for hundreds of government institutions and social partners, as well as the integration of just transition principles into Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), describing it as a significant milestone for the country
According to her, the second phase will focus on promoting sustainable energy solutions and supporting Nigeria’s gradual transition from conventional energyses are not left behind
She reaffirmed the ILO’s commitment to supporting the implementation of Nigeria’s climate, labour and renewable energy priorities
Also speaking, Kamil Shoretire said lessons learned during the first phase, particularly the importance of quality data and evidence-based planning, would guide implementation of the new phase
Meanwhile, Tenioye Majekodunmi emphasised that climate action must remain people-centred and inclusive
She said the National Council on Climate Change would align implementation of Nigeria’s Just Transition Guidelines and NDC 3.0 with practical interventions such as clean energy and clean cooking initiatives capable of creating jobs, reducing poverty and supporting sustainable economic development
She urged stakeholders to work together to ensure Nigeria’s ecological transition delivers lasting social, environmental and economic benefits

Federal Government Launches Second Phase of TVET program to Equip Nigerians with Job-Ready Skills

The Federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated the second cohort of the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program at the I Choose Life Foundation, an accredited training centre, as part of efforts to equip young Nigerians with practical skills for employment, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment
The inauguration and orientation programme was conducted by the National Programme Monitoring Office, represented by Tunji Odewunmi
Addressing participants, Odewunmi encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity, describing the TVET initiative as a life-changing programme that empowers individuals through practical skills acquisition
He explained that the programme is designed to equip participants with industry-relevant technical and vocational skills that can lead to employment, entrepreneurship and long-term financial independence
According to him, productive engagement through vocational training helps young people build confidence, develop a sense of purpose and create sustainable career paths while reducing their vulnerability to social vices and substance abuse
He noted that meaningful participation in skills development programmes also contributes to improved mental wellbeing by providing young people with opportunities to become self-reliant and economically productive
The Federal Government’s TVET Initiative was established to bridge critical skills gaps by providing practical vocational and technical education through accredited training centres across Nigeria. The programme aims to improve employability, encourage entrepreneurship and create sustainable economic opportunities for participants
For small businesses and the wider economy, initiatives such as TVET help build a skilled workforce, support the growth of artisans and entrepreneurs, and strengthen sectors that depend on technical expertise. The programme is also expected to increase the pool of skilled workers available to MSMEs while encouraging more young Nigerians to start and grow their own businesses
Speaking on its role in the initiative, the I Choose Life Foundation said the programme aligns with its mission of promoting mental wellness and preventing drug and substance misuse among young people
The foundation described skills acquisition as more than an economic intervention, noting that it also promotes dignity, productivity, improved mental health and positive community engagement
It added that addressing substance abuse requires creating opportunities for young people to learn practical skills, secure sustainable livelihoods and build brighter futures, rather than relying solely on awareness campaigns
The organization encouraged young Nigerians to take advantage of the Federal Government’s TVET Initiative and other legitimate skills development programs, stressing that technical trades, vocational services, digital skills and entrepreneurship remainomic empowerment
