China’s third medical expert team for the Ebola response will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and international organizations based on the actual needs of epidemic prevention and control, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

The team arrived in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC, on Saturday to support the country’s efforts to strengthen its defenses against the epidemic.

According to the ministry’s spokesman Lin Jian, the third batch of experts consists of specialists in epidemiology, health quarantine, clinical treatment, pathogen laboratory testing and other fields.

Since the outbreak of the new round of Ebola epidemic in Africa, China has continuously sent medical teams to countries, including the DRC, to support their efforts in combating the epidemic, and received high appreciation from various sides, Lin said.

China stands ready to continue leveraging the expertise of its medical professionals in Africa, provide support to African countries within its capacity, and help them overcome the difficulties at an early date, he said.
