    Highlights

    • D3 Energy (ASX:D3E) confirmed on 23 July 2026 that a drilling programme had commenced at Nooitgedacht, within its Exploration Right 315 (ER315) area in South Africa‘s Free State Province.
    • Nooitgedacht is a farm in the north-western part of ER315, near the Homestead fault, where historic gas “blowers” have reportedly flowed methane over several decades.
    • The company’s South African projects target both helium and natural gas (methane), the core commodities of its stated development strategy.
    • A TradingView snapshot at approximately 12:56pm AEST on 23 July 2026 showed D3E shares up about 17.7% on the day.
    • The drilling update follows earlier reserve and resource certifications reported across the ER315 and ER386 permits.

D3 Energy Limited (ASX:D3E) is a helium and natural gas explorer advancing a portfolio of assets in South Africa’s Free State Province. Also quoted in the United States under ticker DNRGF, the company released its drilling commencement update to the ASX on 23 July 2026, coinciding with a sharp intraday move in its share price.

    Drilling Commences at Nooitgedacht

D3 Energy confirmed that a drilling programme had commenced at Nooitgedacht, a farm situated in the north-western part of its ER315 permit near the Homestead fault. Company project materials note that a major gas-yielding borehole is located on the farm, and that historic “blowers” in the area have produced methane over decades. The gas in the region is characterised as microbial methane sourced from the deeper Witwatersrand Supergroup. The commencement of drilling marks a shift from resource assessment toward active field activity at this target. Per-well results from the new programme are yet to be reported.

    ER315 Project Context

Nooitgedacht sits within ER315, which project documentation describes as covering roughly 811 square kilometres in the Free State. D3 Energy has previously reported an independently certified maiden reserve along the western Virginia fault line, covering proved (1P), proved-plus-probable (2P) and proved-plus-probable-plus-possible (3P) categories for both methane and helium. The company has also reported a maiden 2C recoverable helium resource of 14.0 billion cubic feet (BCF) at its neighbouring ER386 permit. Beyond South Africa, D3 Energy has reported expanding into Australia’s Arckaringa Basin through petroleum exploration licences targeting helium, natural gas and hydrogen. Managing Director and CEO David Casey leads the company.

    Share Price Context

A TradingView snapshot captured at approximately 12:56pm AEST on 23 July 2026 showed D3E shares up about 17.7% for the session. This is a single intraday reading and does not represent the confirmed closing price. The share-price move occurred on the same day as the drilling announcement, though intraday movements in small-cap explorers can be influenced by multiple factors, and no definitive cause is asserted here.

    Opportunities

The start of a drilling campaign is a meaningful operational step for an exploration-stage company, moving Nooitgedacht from study to active field work. Helium is a globally traded specialty gas attracting sustained interest, and D3 Energy has positioned its Free State acreage as a combined helium and natural gas province. Prior reserve and rerpin the company’s ambition to reach first production later this decade

    Risks

D3 Energy is an exploration-stage, pre-revenue company. Exploration and appraisal drilling carries inherent technical risk, with no assurance that the Nooitgedacht programme will deliver commercial flow rates or confirm resource expectations. Development steps — including production-right approvals, funding, processing infrastructure and offtake — all remain subject to execution and regulatory timelines. The size of the intraday move on 23 July 2026 is itself a reminder of the volatility typical for small-cap explorers.

    What Investors May Watch

Key items include any results or updates from the Nooitgedacht drilling programme, progress on production-right applications across ER315, further reserve or reage. Funding arrangements and guidance on the path toward first production may also be relevant
