Deandra Dottin has made a stunning cameo with the bat for the West Indies just moments after she was seen being carried off the field before the start of the first semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 <a href="https://absafricatv.com/at-the-world-cup-the-media-has-set-up-a-moral-checkpoint/” title=”At the World Cup, the media has set up a moral checkpoint”>World Cup 2026 against Australia at The Oval

Coming in at No.8 with the West Indies reeling at 83/6, Dottin produced a spirited unbeaten 26 off 16 balls, sharing a valuable partnership with Jannillea Glasgow to revive the innings after the collapse

Their late resistance helped the West Indies recover to 125/7, a total that had looked well beyond reach at one stage and gave them a fighting chance of reaching the final

While the full extent of Dottin’s condition is yet to emerge, West Indies head coach Shane Deitz praised her resilience after the innings and hoped that she would also be able to contribute with the ball as well

“She had a little medical issue,” coach Deitz said in an interview after the end of West Indies’ innings. “She is fine now and she played a great innings at the end there. Gave us a little bit of a total

“Hopefully if we bowl well, a few early wickets, we have a chance to get this win

“She’s a tough character. It’s hard to keep her down. Hopefully she will come out and chip in with a wicket or two.”

A fiery opener, Dottin has dropped down to the middle order during the tournament as Qiana Joseph opened the batting with captain Hayley Matthews in the all-important semi-final.

West Indies qualified for the semi-final with wins over New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Scotland in the group stage
