Motorists could see some relief at the pumps next month, although it is <a href="https://absafricatv9491.live-website.com/i-feel-like-im-living-extra-time/” title=”I Feel Like I'm Living Extra Time”>likely to be less than previously projected.

The latest Central Energy Fund data suggests petrol prices are still likely to drop in August, with reductions of around 54 to 59 cents a litre.

The outlook for diesel is less positive.

August fuel price cuts may not be as big as first expected

Can we expect rate hike this week as intensifying Middle East conflict fuels oil prices?

Current projections suggest increases ranging from around 66 cents to as much as R1.80 a litre, depending on the grade and how international oil prices move over the coming days.

For someone filling a 50-litre petrol tank, a 59 cents price cut would mean a saving of almost R30.

A diesel increase of around R1.80 per litre, however, would add about R90 to the cost of filling the same size tank.

The official fuel price adjustments are expected to be announced by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Reth

While cheaper petrol would be welcome news for many South African households, higher diesel prices could have wider consequences.

Diesel powers much of the country’s freight, agriculture, construction and public transport

Higher diesel costs can increase transport and operating expenses across supply chains, even if the cost of petrol goes down.
