Social media influencers Peter for Nigeria and Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, have been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after honouring the agency’s invitation over allegations of naira abuse.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by their lawyer, Inibehe Effiong.

According to the lawyer, the EFCC had invited the duo through separate letters dated June 24, asking them to appear before the commission on July 6 to clarify allegations of naira abuse.

Effiong said the meeting was rescheduled to July 15 after the defence informed the commission that his clients would be unavailable on the initial date.

He explained that he accompanied Peter for Nigeria and Mama Pee to the EFCC headquarters on Wednesday, where they met with investigators and cooperated with the investigation before being released.

“After cooperating with the Commission, our clients were released and we departed the EFCC’s Headquarters. We will be going today in furtherance of the investigation,” he said.

Effiong noted that during the interrogation, which lasted several hours, the commission conducted itself professionally.

He added that his clients explained to investigators that the money featured in the content under investigation was prop money used for entertainment purposes and not genuine naira notes.

“Our clients clarified that what was referenced were Props money for entertainment and not Naira notes,” he stated.

The lawyer said both Peter for Nigeria and Mama Pee were in high spirits and appreciated Nigerians who expressed concern over their safety following reports of their invitation by the anti-graft agency.

He added that further details on the matter would be made available as the investigation progresses.
