Fans <a href="https://absafricatv9491.live-website.com/call-of-my-life-becomes-nigerias-highest/” title=”‘Call Of My Life’ Becomes Nigeria’s Highest”>Call Grammys ‘Racist’ After BTS Withdraws From 2027’s Awards Run; Here’s Why

With less than a year since BTScame back, they were already winning awards left and right. However, in a surprising announcement, they confirmed that they wouldn’t submit their music for 2027’s Grammy Awards. Interestingly, their stance has caused an uproar.

Fans aren’t just supportive of their stance; they’re also calling out the Grammys for pushing the K-pop band to separate from the run because of ‘casual racism.’

    BTS Withdraws from Grammys 2027

Taking to their Instagram stories, BTS announced that they wouldn’t participate or submit their music for the 2027 Grammy Awards ever since they created a whole different category for Asian musicians to participate and compete in.

“We have decided not to submit to the Grammys this year. I hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. Thank you to ARMYand everyone who is always with us.”

Their decision has granted fans an even bigger opportunity to support them. Some fans also called out how the Grammy Awards added a separate Latin category once Bad Bunny won and was nominated for three major awards. Others were being blunt and calling the Grammys racist for adding various categories and using various terms that would eventually be swept away by people who don’t essentially deserve it.

Just a reminder that what the GRAMMYs are doing affects many artists. They also added another Latin category after Bad Bunny won AOTY and was nominated for SOTY and ROTY. https://t.co/4GdcuGdM1g

Same way they call every African music afrobeats , then end up giving afrobeats award to an amapiano artist. Grammys are racist af https://t.co/4DUFZM08ao

Gagged!!! I wish Latin Artists would do the same! The Grammys created those Latin and Asian categories bc they’re racists and xenophobic! Good for BTS https://t.co/hIFwzx9SHY

despite being robbed a few times, they had stayed silent. now they raised voice for whole asian community. my respect them for them increased even more. https://t.co/u4Me2K70m2

    — Miley Goldenꪜ (@Mmileymiley) July 29, 2026

to anyone missing the point. this is them refusing to bown down to a institution that would rather create racially segregated categories than letting poc artists compete equally for the main awards https://t.co/LZt23JtL0S

Despite the impact they had this year, the decision has been powerful. It also screams for other Asian artists who get snubbed year after year and others who are forced to cater to a Western audience and Western norms just to feel validated.

Not only has their stance impressed fans, but it could also open other artists to do the same. Some also say that it isn’t just the Asian artists who should do that, but also Latin artists and musicians who get robbed of the same. Creating new categories shortly after a person of colour wins a major award isn’t just suspicious; it is problematic.

It shows fear of being overshadowed when people of other ethnicities rise up and get recognition. BTS, consisting of RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, has done something that is strong and loud.
