A private meeting took place in Abuja between Senator Kabiru Gaya and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

Senator Kabiru Gaya, a former Kano State Governor and a leading figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has consented to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This decision by Gaya came after a private discussion with APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, held at Yilwatda’s residence on Yaounde Street in Abuja on Monday evening.

This development occurs mere days after Gaya reportedly failed to secure the NDC senatorial ticket for Kano South, even though he had recently switched to the opposition party in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.

On April 5, Gaya had resigned from the APC, subsequently joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for a short period, before eventually aligning with the NDC alongside former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He held the position of Governor of Kano State during the Third Republic from 1992 to 1993, and subsequently represented the Kano South Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 under the APC banner.

In 2023, Gaya was unsuccessful in his re-election campaign, losing to Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, who ran on the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) platform.
