Great Plains, the iconic eco-tourism company founded by <a href="https://absafricatv.com/trump-backs-off-20-fee-threats-for-cargo-shipped-through-strait-of-hormuz-national/” title=”Trump backs off 20% fee threats for cargo shipped through Strait of Hormuz – National”>National Geographic explorer-filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert, is delighted to unveil a collection of new guest experiences at Kenya’s Mara Expedition Camp for Summer 2026. From floating bubble baths and the camp’s much loved Singing Kitchen to guided cycling adventures and family-friendly experiences, the new additions encourage guests to discover the Maasai Mara in entirely new ways beyond the traditional safari drive.

Commenting on Mara Expedition Camp, Great Plains Conservation CEO Dereck Joubert said: “We’ve always believed a safari should be about more than the safari drive. Some of the most memorable moments happen between wildlife encounters: sharing meals, exploring on foot or by bicycle, or simply taking time to absorb the landscape. Mara Expedition Camp captures the romance of Africa’s early explorers while giving today’s travelers more ways to connect with this extraordinary place.”

Set beneath a grove of East African acacia trees on private land bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Mara Expedition Camp evokes the spirit of Africa’s early explorers. Now, the camp has evolved to offer a classic canvas-style safari with active adventures, memorable dining and unique activities.

    Explore the Mara by Bike
Guests can now explore the open plains by bicycle alongside experienced guides, riding among gazelles, impalas, topis and warthogs. Guided nature walks offer another perspective, encouraging guests to slow down and appreciate the smaller details of the Mara ecosystem.

    A Pool on Wheels
One of the camp’s most distinctive features is its swimming pool, perched atop a converted 1950s Hanomag truck. Elevated above the surrounding plains, it provides an unforgettable setting for an afternoon swim before transforming into a spectacular spot for sundowners or private dining beneath the African sky.

    The Singing Kitchen
At the heart of camp is The Singing Kitchen, where guests gather around talented chefs as they prepare vibrant menus using herbs, fruit and vegetables grown in the camp’s own garden. Recipes are shared, songs are sung and dinners often become memorable evenings of music and conversation.

    Family Safaris
Families are well catered for at Mara Expedition Camp, with children aged six and above welcome to stay. A dedicated two-bedroom family tent sleeps up to four guests, while the Great Plains Young Explorers programme introduces younger travelers to wildlife, conservation, cooking and the natural world through a range of hands-on activities. Together, these family friendly experiences allow families to discover the magic of safari together while inspiring the next generation of conservationists.

    Classic Safari, Extraordinary Wildlife
Safari remains, of course, at the heart of every stay. Guests enjoy open-sided safari drives through one of Africa’s richest wildlife regions, renowned for its extraordinary predator density and annual migrations. Access to both the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the more exclusive Mara North Conservancy offers exceptional wildlife viewing, while complimentary professional camera equipment and binoculars help guests capture every moment.

    Wellness in the Wild
For those seeking relaxation, the camp offers open-air massages beneath the acacia trees, while guests staying in the family tent and couple’s tents can enjoy a surprise romantic bath experience on their private deck, complete with a freestanding copper bathtub overlooking the wilderness.
