A true stalwart of the Proteas, Pollock’s career, spanning from 1995 to 2008, was defined by exceptional consistency, leadership, and a unique ability to influence matches with both bat and ball. Nine-Man Shortlisted for England Test Head Coach Role Includes List of IPL Coaches: Report

    A Prolific All-Rounder

Shaun Pollock emerged from a distinguished cricketing family, with his father Peter and uncle Graeme Pollock also representing South Africa. He quickly established himself as a pivotal figure in the national team following his Test debut against England on November 16, 1995, and his ODI debut against the same opposition on January 9, 1996. Throughout his career, Pollock was renowned for his immaculate line and length, subtle seam movement, and a batting style that often provided crucial runs down the order. His ability to consistently deliver under pressure made him an indispensable asset for South Africa, leading the side in all formats from 2000 to 2003.

    Milestones and Records

Pollock’s career is dotted with numerous records and achievements, solidifying his status as a modern-day great. He holds the distinction of being the first South African to claim 400 Test wickets, a testament to his longevity and skill. At the time of his international retirement on February 3, 2008, he held the unique distinction of being the first player to achieve the double of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets in both Test and ODI cricket.

His mastery in the One Day International format was equally impressive. Pollock possesses the best economy rate among all bowlers who have taken 300 or more ODI wickets and holds the record for bowling the most maiden overs in ODI history, with 313. He was also a key member of the South African team that won the 1998 ICC KnockOut Trophy, the country’s first major international honour. Nine-Man Shortlisted for England Test Head Coach Role Includes List of IPL Coaches: Report
