Sweden v Poland 29:22 (12:11)
A well-deserved win against Poland secured Sweden the ninth position at China 2026. In turn, the Polish side suffered their third defeat in the last four matches to finish 10th
Eleven Swedish players put their names on the scoresheet, with Isabelle Rydén becoming their top scorer with five goals. But it was goalkeeper Anna Danielsson who made a key impact with her 16 saves, restricting Poland to just a 43% shot efficiency
Sweden took early control, leading 3:0 before Zuzanna Zimnicka scored Poland’s first goal in the seventh minute. Good defence and Danielsson’s saves helped them increase the gap to 8:4 in the 14th minute
They still led by five goals, 12:7, with six minutes to play in the first half, but following a 4:0 surge, Poland cut the gap to just one goal at the break before Zimnicka drew level soon after the restart
However, Sweden weathered the storm, and further saves from Danielsson as well as Märtha Dittschlag’s goals powered them to a crucial 8:1 run. Midway through the second half, the Scandinared Poland’s hopes, Sweden held their nerve to clinch a seven-goal victory

Placement Match 13/14
People’s Republic of China v Hungary 25:35 (11:16)
The People’s Republic of China lost the Placement Match 13/14 against Hungary, but they still had the best finish since 2005 in the competition, providing a springboard for developing the sport in the country
For the first 24 minutes, China managed to stay close to Hungary and even tie the score, 9:9, but the ending of the first half was clearly dominated by the European side, which opened a five-goal lead, 16:11, conceding only once in the last six minutes
Powerred by Noémi Kacsó, who scored eight goals, as well as Liza Pálmai, who also had eight goals, Hungary did not have any issues in the second half, but they still managed a 10-goal win, which saw them finish 13th
However, this is the first time when Hungary finished outside of the top-10 at the IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, with their previous worst finish being 10th place in 1997

Placement Match 21/22
Angola v Argentina 27:28 a.pen. (9:17; 16:8)
Argentina finished on the 21st place in the final standings, but only after a topsy-turvy match, which saw the South American side lose an eight-goal lead at the break, 17:9, with Angola punishing their mistakes in the second half
Helena Molina was once again Argentina’s top scorer, with six goals, and Argentina still led by six goals in the 44th minute, 22:16, but they only scored twice in the next 16 minutes, while Angola’s goalkeeper, Elizandra Domingos, shut down shop with 15 saves and a 50% saving efficiency
Eventually, the match went on penalties, where Argentina kept their cool, scored four times, while Angola managed only three goals, with the final score being 28:27 in favour of the South American side

United States of America v Chinese Taipei 37:35 a.pen. (19:20; 34:34)
The USA finished 29th at this edition of the IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, after securing their second win, marking an improvement of their finishes in 2022 (31st) and 2024 (30th)
The match against the Chinese Taipei went down to the wire, as the Asian side first took the lead in a high-octane first half, with 39 goals scored. However, the USA bounced back and cut the lead to a single goal, 19:20, at the break
At her third edition of the IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, back Isabella Da Cruz scored 14 goals for the USA to push the match to penalties, as the score at the regular time was tied, 34:34
And this is where the USA really provided a great finish, scoring three and only conceding one, to secure the 37:35 win which was their second in the competition, after the one against India yesterday
