According to media outlets in South Africa, the former Miss Nigeria appeared before the Cape Town Regional Court on June 9 after she was arrested in the Summer Green Areas of Cape Town

The 25-year-old model was released on warning and is expected to return to court in July as South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs seeks her deportation

According to an affidavit filed by immigration officer Adrian Jackson, the model was already known to the South African authorities from an earlier investigation that found that she and her child were residing in the country unlawfully

“After the above ‘status determination’ interview and the DHA residency IT systems checks, it was confirmed that the applicant does not hold any lawful RSA residential status and is thus an illegal foreigner,” read the affidavit.

Additionally, he alleged that the former Miss Nigeria had intentionally and wilfully remained a resident unlawfully, contravening South Africa’s Immigration Act, arguing that the court should approve her detention and deportation

Adetshina’s case began during the 2024 Miss South Africa pageant when concerns were raised about her immigration and citizenship status, speaking publicly in South Africa and Nigeria

As a result, she withdrew from the Miss South Africa <a href="https://absafricatv.com/artificial-intelligence-competition-in-europe-the-role-of-dma-article-67-2/” title=”Artificial-intelligence competition in Europe: the role of DMA Article 6(7)”>competition, citing the safety and well-being of herself and her family
